The advertisement should match the vibe of the magazine.

So printing it and cutting the mat board was a PAIN, but it looked okay in the end (not great). So for this I went through several changes in the design. My aim was to have a feel similar to the magazine I was portraying, IdN, International Designer's Network. The magazine itself did not have advertising per say, but it was very captivating visually, and the last issue I had picked up was the color issue. The whole concept of this is advertising my "design firm". When I thought about print design I thought about the CMYK printing process. From the beginning I set out to have cyan, magenta, yellow, and black as my main colors. Then I just thought about ink and paint, and did this waterflow, paint drippage thing to the icon from the previous project. I went through several placement ideas, then I finally decided to incorporate my logo into it. I think the placement adds a depth and action kind of feeling. I chose to cover part of the logo with the paint, yes a risky move. I though it would sort of entice the viewer to figure out what it is, adding another element of intrigue, I believe it worked, I would have stated the company name again in the text. Then I added these diagonal lines to corespond with the magazine. The magazine used diagonal lines for headlines, or for extra filler and direction, so that's exactly what I did. it contrasts the movement of the sabertooth, so it adds interest, then the sabertooth completes this perfect triangle, so there is a sense of balance. Then, the text was a major issue, I did not know how to incorporate it, I went thought several placement options again, and I had to think of a way to present it. Then I had this marvelous idea of whiting out some of the diagonals, and continuing this strait edge theme. The text turned out really readable, and balanced off everything. To top it off I added these borders to crunch it in a way that it looked like it was contained (the sabertooth is dangerous, playing with concept). There is this paper texture as well overlaying most everything which adds to the CMYK printing concept. Then to top it off there is a site at the bottom right corner for the reader to go to. I was very proud of this one. :]

spring break art

So far I have been crankin the old art hand (which I have to wear my brace now, stupid carpal tunnel).

Here are some of my finished works (not the best, just spontaneous paintbrush to canvas)

Ghost Deer
16x20"

So I did the background a long, long time ago, I just didn't know what to add to it. I was going to submit it to an auction, but I love it too much. The deer just struck me after seeing so many deer images that week, its an opaque blue acrylic. It's mostly an acrylic painting. The background was many layers of gesso, and I painted on the last layer with acrylic, so the colors ran smoothly, just an experiment. The deer is that watered down acrylic, with a charcoal outline. I also love the symbolism of the deer, this watchfulness, still creature, and by making him this ghost it empowers that symbolism even more. Obviously I really played with the color palette. I love where the opaque blue makes that green over the yellow, complimenting the redish tones. Go complimentary colors! I might add more to it. :]

Octo Lady
6x12"

A quick(-1hr) painting for an auction at my church. :] The background was the cool part I think. I did this blue, green, yellow spray paint gradient, then I added this watered down blue-green acrylic and added some gold embossing powder. I just added the octo lady because I had been having dreams of octopuses lately. Imagery that needed to come out of my head. :] It sold for 280, so that was pretty cool.

Awkward Owl
12x12"

It was a birthday present for my friend Jose (19!). He loves owls, music, and the color blue. I this this over an old painting of graffiti that I had (the grey, and you can see some red-orange letters). Some white Spanish Molotow spray paint, then just acrylic, and a black paint pen. He loved it.

>So currently I am working on two (semi)big paintings, and a design project. Hopefully they'll come out great.

>Oh, and I was on the RLC Multimedia webpage, and I saw that the announcements reel had two of my digital artworks I did last year for their annual digital arts festival. So that is awesome! Check out their Lago Vista Gallery, I have three things in there. The Ladybug, Funky Giraffe, and the Addiction poster. I have grown a lot since last year, so it is nice looking back. :]

doodle #1

Doodle of the day. Then added color to bring it together on photoshop.

I was watching America's Best Dance Crew. I got inspired to do this one for all the bgirls out there. :D

Octopi

So I decided to start a journal thing with the journal my boyfriend's sister gave me. It was a red fabric covered sketchandjournal book. It has lined pages with blank ones so you can write and sketch. Pretty cool. But I didn't like the outside.

Process:

So I spray painted a base of white then added on some german Montana yellow, and some Belton orange. Then I splattered some Ironlak Oink Pink. It's thick so it leaves some texture. Then I used a deep pink (raspberry red) and a cyan colored blue (middle shock blue) Belton Molotow as well to make the tentacles. Then I used some Spanish Montana Nitro platinum for the drips at the top as a last touch. Then I waited for it to dry and outlined the tentacles with a tree house marker, and did the smaller details with black sharpie. Then done. =)

tentacles v02, 11 x 24", June 2008

Then I got inspired to do my tile for the art classroom. It's on a plaster like surface, same process as the other one, but since it's sturdier the ironlak made these really cool pink bubbles, and also I used a Spanish Montana Lila (Lilac). It's 11 by 24".

Portraits

This is the corner of my 9 self portrait project. I had done it some time ago waiting for the perfect moment, since he left to Oklahoma and I had not seen him in 5days, this was perfect. It symbolizes that he will always be in my heart. And that I cannot stop thinking about him!

I made stencils out of my hands, and the font that says 'i love you'. I then spray painted them on the wood board. Then I hand painted the hearts.
